My Favorite Primers
Sigh...I'm one of those folks that romanticizes winter. When it's not winter, I think nothing sounds more cozy than wrapping up in a warm blanket with thick, fluffy socks on, and a cup of hot tea/coffee/chocolate. I imagine that while reading a book, watching a movie, or waiting out a snowstorm. Now that it's officially cold enough to warrant ALL of that...I can't help but wonder what the heck I'm thinking the rest of the year! Well...it is kinda cozy :). But, I'm getting ready for summer! Guess I'll be waiting for a while, though. Oh well! In the mean time, let me talk about primers!
Do you use primers? I'm a HUGE fan of primers! They prep your skin for your makeup by smoothing it and giving it a little 'grip' so your makeup stays put longer throughout the day. The most common primer people use is a general face primer and if that's all you use, there's definitely nothing wrong with that! I use three different types of primers - one for my face, one for my eyelids, and one for under the eye (if I add one more to the mix, it might be time for an intervention!). These are my current picks and the ones I adore.
- Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer- There are literally dozens of varieties of face primers out there based on different skin needs - there's something for oily skin, redness, dryness, mature skin, etc. I've tried several different brands and types and for the past 4 or 5 months, this one has been my favorite. I love that it's a stick instead of a liquid. That means it's a little less messy and makes it easy for travel (both from the perspective that you don't have to put it in the 3 oz or less baggy, leaving more room for other goodies! AND it won't accidentally open up in your bag and spill everywhere!). You apply this on your face, then just rub it in with your fingers. What I love is that it has a little 'stick' to it which really grips to my foundation. But...it doesn't feel sticky on my face! I feel like my foundation goes on more evenly when I use this (check out my favorite foundation HERE).
- Smashbox Lid Primer- Of these 3 products, this is by far my absolute favorite. I've been using it for several years and have NEVER found anything I like better. This gives a nice base before I put on my eyeshadow. Other primers I have used have been too watery or thin. On the rare occasion that I forget to apply this, I can always tell. Usually I can tell as soon as I start apply my eyeshadow. I even use this on the weekends when I sometimes skip the eyeshadow. It just gives a more natural and polished look.
- Smashbox Under Eye Primer - I just started using this last year. I received a free sample when I ordered something from smashbox.com. They send a generous mini tube and to be honest with you, I have yet to actually buy a tube of this! I ended up getting 2 or 3 mini tubes from several different orders and that's kept me stocked since last spring! Needless to say, a little goes a long way. I love how this brightens up the eye area and allows my concealer to go on a little more smoothly. The concealer also stays on longer!
