Birchbox Sample Box {December 2014}

It's Sample Box time again!  Today, we're diving into my Birchbox sample box that I received last week.  As always, I have been having fun during the past week giving everything a good try.   I'm definitely digging a few of the goodies I received this month (but not sure if I'll actually be placing an order or not)

I love how each box still has the ability to surprise me every month!  And since that's half the fun, it keeps me anxiously awaiting for the next one!  This month's box was a mix of hair, makeup, and skin care products and it was packaged nicely in a festive holiday inspired box!

Ready to take a peek and see what I got?  Alrighty....let's go!

#1 |  Rusk Texture Spray

I was very excited to give this product a try.  I love hair products that promise 'texture'.  But...I was a tad disappointed with this one.  It seems to be just a standard hairspray.  It's not a bad hairspray, mind you!  But, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

I did like the scent and that it is a light hold that keeps your strands in place without giving you a helmet head!  But, it doesn't beat my absolute favorite hairspray.  I will, however, definitely hang onto this sample jar for when I travel, so not all is lost!

#2 | Mirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24Hr Mascara

I am always on the hunt for a good mascara, so when I saw this one and read it's description, I couldn't try it fast enough!  It's supposed to provide long lasting results that give lashes a dramatic lift. does last and it doesn't flake (which is nice), but I tend to need a mascara that plumps up my lashes since they're rather puny and this one didn't deliver on that front.

Another thing I noticed was that my eyelashes tended to stick together slightly right after application for a few minutes which was a little bit annoying, but wouldn't have been a deal breaker if I had liked it a bit more.  So...sadly, this one is a no for me.

#3 | Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Firming Tea Treatment Mask

I really liked this face mask!  This product is made with antioxidant-rich tea and it promises to firm and brighten skin.  I've only tried it once, so I can't quite comment on the brightening/firming, but I loved how this stuff smelled and how my skin felt both while it was slathered on my face and after I rinsed it off.

I can definitely see making this part of my rotation, but with a $58 price tag, I don't think I'll be ordering this one.  It's not that I don't think it's worth the $58, it's just I have a tendency to forget to use mask products and they go to waste.  While my goal when I buy a new mask is to not do that, I don't want to risk the same bad behavior to the tune of almost $60!

#4 | W3LL People Bio Brightener Stick

I soooo want to love highlighter/brightening sticks, but I have not have a lot of success with them in the past.  I will admit that it could be user error...I can't seem to find the right balance.  Either I put too much on and it just looks weird, or I don't put enough on and nothing looks any different.  I

t's supposed to be subtle, but I haven't quite found that balance....that is, until now!  I was skeptical, but this seems to give just enough highlight that I can see the brightening effects, yet I haven't created hot spots on my face where it looks like I'm oddly glowing.  Yay!  I'm going to keep using the sample to be sure I like it, but I might just be placing an order for this little gem!

#5 & #6 | Number 4 Hair Care Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner

I tried this pair over the weekend and was happy with the results, but not enough to ditch my favorite shampoo and conditioner.  It has a pretty good scent and the ends of my hair did appear a little less dry than usual after I blew it dry.  Where it slightly disappointed me is that my hair seemed a little flat and lacked volume, which my fave shampoo and conditioner deliver quite nicely! I'll probably hang onto these, however, for when I want to mix it up a little, but I don't plan on ordering either of these products.

So, what's the overall verdict on this month's box? Well, I really like two of the products (the highlighter and the mask), but despite really liking the mask, it's doubtful that I will be ordering it. The highlighter is a definite maybe, so I'll keep using my sample before making my final decision!

As for the love, but I appreciate the Birchbox effort! You win some and you lose some, but at the end of the day, it was still tons of fun, so overall...that's a big win!
