A Look Ahead {December 2016}

It’s the beginning of a new month and being that it’s December, it might even be the beginning the most magical month of the year!

I thought I’d try something different this month.  I used to post my monthly goals at the beginning of each month, but dropped it since I just wasn’t feeling that series anymore.  Now…I’m feeling a stirring to do something similar, yet different.

I thought I’d share about the upcoming month in a more general way by taking a look at what’s coming for the month ahead.

This won’t be as heavily focused on my goals and will feel more like catching up with an old friend and sharing what’s on the horizon in my life and with the blog.

Sound good?

In general, December is shaping up to be a busy month, as you might expect with the holidays in full swing.  In addition to enjoying the various festivities, I’ll be doing a fair amount of traveling, and I’ll be knee deep in prepping for 2017.

I love this time of year for both the holidays and planning for the new year!

What's ahead on the Blog this month

For this month’s topics, I’m excited to mix it up with a little of this and a little of that!  Yes, there will be some holiday inspired posts (i.e. being single for the holidays, how to really feel Christmas, and probably some journal prompts).  But, I also want to start talking about how to start planning for the new year because starting the year out with a plan will help you dive in headfirst!

And it wouldn’t be the end of a year if we didn’t take a look back on 2016.  I’ll be reflecting on my year - where and how I’ve grown, plus I’ll sharing the best resources that helped me grow this year.

Finally, now that I’ve finally released my updated website, it’s time to move onto the next phase.  I have quite a bit I still want to do with my website and I’m hoping to continue sprucing things up and adding in a few other things.

What's ahead for me this month

For me, this month is going to be fun, yet hectic.  I have two trips planned, so I’ll be away, then home, then away again.

First up is Seattle...by the time this post goes live, I’ll already be there!  This trip is a final celebration for the mastermind/coaching group I was a member of this year.  All 14 of us will be gathering in Seattle for laughs, hugs, celebrations, spa time, and further bonding over a lovely long weekend. I can’t wait!!

Later this month, I’ll head down to my hometown of Atlanta for Christmas with the family.  That’s always a fun time with catching up with lifelong friends and spending a few down days with the family.

While I’m not traveling and I’m home in Connecticut, I will be working on rounding out and reflecting on 2016 as I also lay the groundwork for 2017.  I don’t like waiting until January to get started because then I waste a few weeks in January trying to figure everything out.  I’d rather hit the ground running on January 1st by knowing exactly what I want and where to start, so the work begins now.

Home Projects

I’ll also be finishing up my year of making my home my peaceful sanctuary (yes, that was really one of my goals for 2016!).

Every room in my home was decluttered, cleaned out, spruced up (minor updates for some, major for others) and my place is like an entirely new home!  I didn't love my place at the beginning of this year and it didn't feel like me...now it does and I love love love being home in my space.

Enjoying the Holidays

Finally, I plan on taking some time to enjoy the various holiday activities - Christmas movies, visiting some local Christmas events, time with friends, etc.  There’s never a shortage of activities this time of year, so I’m sure I won’t have any problems getting into the Christmas spirit!

How to make the most of your December

Before wrapping this up, I wanted to give you a chance to make the most of your December.

Sooooo….here are some of my tips:

How do you want this month to feel?

The main thing you want to consider when thinking about your December is how you want to FEEL this month.  Figure that out, harness it, and look for it everywhere.  It’s around you and inside you, so just be aware of it and you will experience it throughout the month.

Enjoy Everything!

Enjoy yourself this month...there's typically a lot going on this month (parties, events, travel, etc.), so don’t hold back! Enjoy every single minute of it!

Give yourself the freedom to try new things, talk to new people, celebrate differently than you have before, and expand your horizons.

Take Care of Yourself

Finally, don’t forget to take care of yourself...while all the madness that's happening and while you're soaking up the fun and the holiday spirit, don’t forget to carve out some time to take care of you (solo time, a walk, snuggle time with your honey, coffee with your bestie, manicure, meditation, journal time, etc.).

Making time for yourself during all the craziness will give you the energy you need to enjoy everything, so don’t skimp on this one!

Final Thoughts

As always this time of year, I'm excited about December and the holidays.  I always go into this month with such high expectations and I’m planning to try to meet every single one of them (and if I don’t…that’s okay!).  Beyond December, I’m even more excited for 2017! I can’t wait to get ready and start envisioning the upcoming year and everything I want to accomplish.

With everything on the agenda, it truly is a magical month.

What do you have planned for this month? How are you going to make this the best December ever?
