Staying Inspired with a Vision Poster
If you’ve been a long time reader around here, you know I love anything that promotes self-love & compassion and following your dreams. I’m all about vision boards, goal setting, positive affirmations, and anything else that will reinforce my dreams and my will to get there.
One of my blogging friends, Ronja of So This is What, recently shared one of the coolest things I’ve seen in quite some time that falls right into this bucket of goodness…a Vision Poster!
The Vision Poster is a beautiful piece of art that uses YOUR words to create a record of what makes you do what you do and captures your dreams for the life you want.
Ronja works for the company that birthed this idea, Gloment, and she was the graphic designer that actually created MY poster (which only makes it that much more special to me).
Since I love it so much, I wanted to share this with the world, but instead of me telling you all about, I wanted Ronja to join us and tell us all about it from her perspective.
Take it away, Ronja!
Q&A with Ronja from Gloment
Before we get to the Q&A, here's a little bit about Ronja! She's a 20-something living in Berlin working on her dreams to live the life she wants.
She blogs over at So This is What (definitely check out her blog...it's fantastic!!). She's a positive thinker, notebook addict, coffee lover, and she's crazy about life. If you want to read more about Ronja, check out her awesome About page!
What is the mission of Gloment and the Vision Posters?
We all have great potential and big dreams, but we stay small because too often we are numbed by the fear of doing something wrong or being criticized. It can be hard to figure out what to do in life and take the first step with those thoughts in our head.
We believe that having a strong vision is the most important key to starting anything. You have to know why you are doing what you are doing. And you have to define your goals to be able to reach them.
Here at Gloment we want to help people to fulfill their dreams and start to believe in themselves.
How did this all get started?
I wasn’t there when Sarah and Luisa started their company, but we’ve talked about the story many times. So, let me tell you a little bit more about Sarah and Luisa, who are the best bosses I could imagine - and I am not just saying that because they are my bosses :)
Sarah is a programmer with a Masters Degree in computational neuroscience while Luisa is a visual designer with an MBA - they are a perfect fit. While Sarah programs our website and the tools we use to create the poster, she also knows a lot about how the human brain works, which is an important part in building a motivational poster about our customers!
Luisa, on the other hand, is responsible for the visual part of the poster and our communication. But, to be honest, the work and tasks never stop. We do what we have to do, all of us :)
Sarah and Luisa have been friends long before Gloment started. It all happened over dinner one night. While they were eating pizza, Luisa started to tell Sarah about her idea to start a company that would find ways to make people happier, motivated and focused on what they want for themselves.
At the end of the night they decided to do it together. And now we are here, more than one year later, a team , working day after day to help people fulfill their dreams.
How does the process work if someone buys a poster? Walk us through it…
Right after you purchase your vision poster, you get an email from us with a link to a questionnaire with 10 questions. These questions help us create your vision poster (just a little hint, they involve things like inspiration and gratitude).
After we receive your answers, we create a first draft of your vision poster that we send to you. Now is time for you to change your poster as you like. From my experience working with lots and lots of customers and creating a poster myself, I know there’s a huge difference in filling out the questions and then seeing them in a poster! That is why it is important to us, that you get the chance to create the poster you desire.
As soon as you are 100% happy with the result, we start printing the poster.
What is your part in the Vision Poster process?
I work on our customer support which involves everything from taking care of any questions regarding our products, communicating with our customers when they have a problem or questions, creating the first draft of the vision poster and printing and sending out the final result.
I also help with our social media channels and with the blogger relations. But as I said before, things quickly change and there are new tasks everyday as the company evolves, which is the fun thing. No day is ever the same :)
What drew you to work for Gloment?
This is a little bit of a longer story and I hope you don’t mind me telling it.
I studied to become a teacher for five years and somehow during these years I realized that becoming a teacher for primary school might not be my purpose in life. But I grew up with the idea that you finish what you start and since I was missing a good alternative, I decided to finish university.
It wasn't until I failed one of my finals, that I found the courage to pursue my dream, take the risky way and not work as a teacher. Thanks to my family and friends, they convinced me to retry the final, which luckily worked out.
Last summer, after my graduation I moved back home to Berlin, trying to figure out what to do in life. As I was trying to find my way, I spent a lot of time on my blog and reading through other blogs as well, which is when I stumbled upon a post by a friend of mine. It was about Gloment. It was love at first sight!
The vision poster seemed to be exactly what I was passionate about and what I was already writing about on my blog, So This is What. I headed straight to their website, curious to learn more and see if there was an opportunity to collaborate with them. But it was even better…they were looking for an intern, here in Berlin.
I wanted to apply right away, but of course, fear got in my way. Who was I to apply for that job, with no experience, no direction in life. You get the point, I was playing myself down.
So, I continued to unpack some boxes and found a quote I wrote myself back after I failed my exam, which is...
“Those who dare to fail miserably, can achieve greatly“ by John F. Kennedy
I stopped what I was doing right away and applied. What can I say? It was a perfect fit. I don’t think I could have found any better job than working with Luisa and Sarah on a mission that I was so passionate about.
What do you love best about your job?
There are sooooo many things I love about my job.
Being able to help our customers create their vision poster is beautiful! I can’t tell you how many times I almost start crying, reading their words - especially now that we launched a friendship and love poster which are perfect gift for you mum, best friends or boyfriend filled with memories of your relationship.
It is pure inspiration.
Every day is different, I don’t think I will ever get bored. : ) Also we make a great team. Sarah and Luisa are not just my bosses, they are my friends and to call that my work is amazing.
What do you hope people get from their Vision Poster?
Somedays I get the most amazing emails from customers telling me how their vision poster helped them to achieve their goals, stop an unhealthy relationship or pursue something they’ve been wanting to do for years. That is what it is all about to me.
I truly hope our Vision Posters help people to find their courage and strength to fulfill their dreams and reach their full power. As I always say on my blog, “Create the life you love”.
And to me, the Vision Poster is the perfect tool for that.
What else? Anything else we should know about Gloment/Vision Posters and you?!
If you can dream it, you can do it. Don’t ever play yourself down, you are capable of amazing things!
